This dream turned into a nightmare after Gabby was strangled. On September 19, 2021, her lifeless corpse was found in a Wyoming National Park.
Brian Laundrie was identified as a person of interest in the investigation. The authorities noted that Brian Laundrie’s lack of cooperation hindered them. Brian Laundrie took his life later, and a suicide note was found next to his body. It claimed responsibility for Gabby’s murder.
Gabby’s family filed a suit against Brian Laundrie and his parents in response to the tragic events. They claimed that they were aware of Brian’s actions. The Laundries, however, have denied any knowledge of Gabby’s tragic death.
How did Gabby Petito die?
Gabrielle Venora Petito, 22, was tragically murdered by Brian Laundrie in August 2021 while on a van-life journey across the United States. The couple set out on their four-month journey in early July of 2021, but Petito disappeared in late August.
Laundrie, who drove the van back to his Florida parents’ house after Petito disappeared, raised suspicions when he refused to give any information on her location. In the case he was charged with unauthorized withdrawals from his debit card. Laundrie was reported missing four days after it went missing, on 13 September.
The remains of Petito were found in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest on September 19. An autopsy revealed that she was strangled.
On October 20, after a long search and much speculation about Laundrie, the skeletal remains of his body were discovered in a Florida Park. A autopsy revealed that Laundrie died of a gunshot to the head.
Later, the FBI revealed that Laundrie confessed to killing Petito by writing it in a journal found near his remains. The case received significant media attention because of the couple’s social-media documentation of their travels.
Gabby Petito Update
Gabby Petito’s parents obtained a copy a letter Brian Laundrie’s mother wrote to her son. The letter contains references about burying bodies and buying a shovel. Attorneys representing both sides debated whether the letter was relevant to the lawsuit that Gabby Petito’s parents filed against Laundrie’s parents and the former attorney.
The letter was found in Brian Laundrie’s backpack in October 2021 when his remains were found. It was in an envelope that said “burn after reading”. There is no date on the envelope.
Patrick Reilly, the attorney for Petito’s family, highlighted in court that Roberta Laundrie had indicated her willingness to commit criminal acts, including burying a corpse and obtaining a spade.
The Petito family’s lawsuit alleges that the Laundries caused emotional distress in connection with Gabby Petito’s death, while she and her fiance Brian Laundrie were traveling through the Western United States.
Laundrie returned from the trip, but without Petito. She then went missing. Gabby Petito was found dead in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest, Wyoming, in September 2021. Her death was ruled as homicide.
Later, the FBI revealed that Brian Laundrie confessed her murder in a journal before taking his life. The following month, his remains were discovered near the residence of his parents in North Port.
Attorneys for Brian Laundrie’s parents have contested the release, arguing that the letter is irrelevant to the civil suit filed by Petito’s parents. Roberta Laundrie said in an affidavit filed before the hearing that she doesn’t remember the exact date but wrote the letter before Brian and Gabby left on their trip. She hoped it would help her repair her relationship with son.
Both parties decided that after extensive court deliberations, a confidentiality order wasn’t necessary to seal the letter. The Twelfth Circuit Court Judge Danielle Brewer found that the letter was relevant to the case and granted the plaintiff’s lawyers access to it. It is not yet known if the letter will become public.
Who was Gabby Pettio?
Gabrielle Venora Petito grew up with six younger and half-siblings in Blue Point, New York. Petito, along with her step-brothers, participated in a video to raise awareness of American gun violence following the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.
She finished her education in 2017 at Bayport-Blue Point High School, Bayport, New York. It was there that she met Brian Christopher Laundrie. After graduating, Petito lived in Carolina Beach, North Carolina from September 2017 until January 2019. She worked as a waitress in a restaurant in Wilmington. She applied to Cape Fear Community College but did not enroll.
Petito and Laundrie started dating in March 2019 and moved in with his parents, in North Port Florida. Both worked at a Publix in North Port. She was a pharmacist technician, and he was in the grocery section. The COVID-19 pandemic ended their employment.
The couple began a cross country journey in late 2019 or early 2020 from New York to California. They made stops at different destinations, such as Las Vegas and Yosemite National Park. Petito celebrated 21st Birthday in Nokomis Florida in March 2020. After visiting Sope Creek in Georgia, they got engaged in July 2020.
Petito bought a Ford Transit Connect 2012 van in December 2020. It served as the camper for his upcoming cross country trip. She worked long hours as a nutritionist and at Taco Bell to save money. Laundrie got a job in an organic juice bar.
Petito has shared her travel and life experiences through social media sites like YouTube and Instagram. She also expressed her passion for art, yoga and a vegetarian way of living.
