Pappan is a Greek-born immigrant. Elias Demetrios Papanikolaou was born in Makrakomi, Greece, in 1930. Demetrios recalled that the village was occupied at the time. His father, Pappan, was grateful to the US soldiers who helped Greece in World War II. He held many picnics in Bradys Run Park where he gave away free food to over 20,000 senior citizens.
