Who was Melissa Caddick?
Melissa Louise Caddick, an Australian woman, went missing in November of 2020 during the investigation by Australian Securities & Investments Commission. The investigation focused on the alleged operation of her financial services business, without the required Australian Financial Services license (AFS).
Melissa Caddick vanished after ASIC agents and Australian Federal Police raided her residence in Dover Heights. Sydney, New South Wales. Authorities were investigating her over alleged embezzlement from her family and friends of A$30 million.
In February 2021, despite extensive speculation regarding her location on the South Coast of New South Wales, partial human remains found on a beach were identified as belonging to Melissa Caddick. The remains were identified as Melissa Caddick’s by DNA tests.
She was therefore officially declared dead. In May 2023, after a coronial investigation, the deputy state Coroner declared Caddick’s death undetermined because she was unable to determine her cause of death.

Australia has been captivated by the perplexing story of Melissa Caddick for two and a quarter years. A wealthy mother, she defrauded investors of $23million before disappearing without a trace. The NSW Coroner Elizabeth Ryan completed the inquest on Thursday morning into Melissa Caddick’s disappearance from November 2020 and declared her dead at 49 years old.
During this time, many wild theories were circulated, including the idea that the fraudster fled abroad or went into hiding after she allegedly cut off her own foot. This foot was discovered in a pair of ASICS shoes that washed up on a New South Wales beach south coast in 2021. It sparked further curiosity and speculation.

Melissa Louise Grimley was born in Lugarno on April 21, 1970. She grew up there. In November 2020, Australian officials raided Melissa’s home in Dover Heights. The raid came as a result an investigation by Australian Securities & Investments Commission.
Melissa operated a Ponzi Scheme from October 2012 to 2019. She illegally received approximately $30 million from her family and friends.
Melissa lived a lavish lifestyle by buying luxury items such as designer clothes, properties, cars and artwork with the funds she embezzled. Melissa disappeared mysteriously just hours after her house was raided, leaving behind her family and possessions. The sudden disappearance of Melissa triggered a manhunt in order to find her. However, no trace was found until February 20, 2021.
The New South Wales Police Force Commissioner revealed at a press briefing that a human foot decomposed within a shoe had washed ashore on Bournda Beach. This beach is located 500 km away from Melissa’s home in Dover Heights.
The shoe was the same size as the shoes Melissa had worn during the raid. DNA tests were conducted on samples from the foot that was found on the beach as well as Melissa’s toothbrush, and from her family members. The DNA testing results confirmed that Melissa’s foot was found on the beach.
Melissa Caddick Cause Of Death
Melissa Caddick is dead, according to a coroner investigation. Due to Anthony Koletti failing to give a true account of the events that occurred in the 30 hours prior to his report about her disappearance, her cause and manner will remain a secret.
According to the coroner’s report, Caddick, a hairdresser and part-time radio DJ, as well as her parents Barb Grimley and Ted Grimley believe she committed suicide by jumping off the cliffs in Dover Heights at dawn on November 12, 2020. Melissa Caddick, despite numerous sightings reported by the public, has not been found since her disappearance.
How did Melissa Caddick die?
The Magistrate Ryan determined that Melissa Caddick was deceased but she could not determine the details of her death. The evidence presented at the inquest was not conclusive as to how, when or where Melissa Caddick died.
The initial suspicion of law enforcement was that Caddick committed suicide by jumping from the cliffs at Rodney Reserve on November 12, 2020, approximately 500 meters away from her residence. According to Dr. Kerri Eagle, forensic psychiatrist, Caddick may have suffered from narcissistic disorder and considered suicide in order to escape her personal and professional problems.
The evidence was not sufficient to prove that Caddick committed suicide. Magistrate Ryan pointed out that there were no eyewitness accounts or CCTV footage of Caddick on the cliff. This further complicated the investigation. The coroner was unable to determine conclusively whether Caddick had received assistance from another person or if she died as a result of an accident.
Due to these limitations, unfortunately, the coroner could not provide definitive findings as to the cause and manner in which Melissa Caddick died. Magistrate Ryan acknowledged that Caddick’s sudden and traumatizing disappearance has caused her family a great deal of sadness.
