Juwan Howard, the coach of the Michigan men’s team basketball team, has been given an update that is encouraging. Coach Howard, 50, underwent heart surgery at the University of Michigan Health’s Samuel and Jean Frankel Heart Center to repair an aortic aneurism and his aortic valvular.
A routine medical examination revealed that these conditions were present. Coach Howard should be able to recover fully within six to 12 weeks. He could even return to the team in as little as four to six weeks.
In his absence, Assistant Coaches Howard Eisley, Saddi Watkins, and Jay Smith, Director of Player Personnel and Development, will temporarily step into the role of assistant coach.
