Frank Somerville, former KTVU anchorman, experienced a challenging experience on Monday night when he was detained in Berkeley after an alleged physical altercation between him and his brother.
Berkeley Scanner reported that police were called to the Berkeley Hills to investigate a disturbance in Somerville’s parent’s home at 6:30 pm. Somerville was reportedly restrained by his brother after a fight broke out, which was allegedly caused by Frank’s threats against the father.
Alameda County jail documents indicate that Somerville was booked for multiple charges. These included suspicions of battery with serious injury to the body, threatening criminal activity with intent to terrorize and disorderly conduct when intoxicated. His bail was $27,500 and he was still in custody as late as Monday night at the Berkeley City Jail.
Frank Somerville was a respected anchor in the Bay Area for many years, having started his career in 1991. In the last couple of years he’s faced some negative publicity. He made headlines in June 2021 when he appeared on KTVU and slurred his words. He was arrested in December 2021 for DUI and suspended from his station a few months later.
