Caleb M. Jurgens was a beloved and vibrant 15-year old from Hopkinton in Iowa who tragically died on Sunday, May 21 2023 due to injuries he sustained after a car accident near his home. Caleb M. Jurgens, a vibrant and beloved 15-year-old from Hopkinton, Iowa, passed away tragically on Sunday, May 21, 2023 due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident near his hometown. On Saturday, after 9 am at the funeral home, there will be additional visitation.

On Saturday, May 27, at 11 am, Reverend Paul Baldwin will preside over a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Hopkinton, Iowa. Caleb’s final resting place will be in Hopkinton Cemetery surrounded by his community.

Caleb Jurgens was born on October 22, 2007 in Cedar Rapids. He is the beloved son of Laura and Eric Jurgens. Caleb made his mark as a freshman in Monticello High school, both on the football pitch and with the FFA. His true passion was farming.

Caleb loved agriculture, whether he was working on the farm during the day with his family or playing farming simulation games at night. Caleb also enjoyed the thrills of snowmobiling and four-wheeling, particularly on memorable trips with family and friends. Caleb’s unwavering belief led him to become an active member at St. Luke’s Parish, Hopkinton in Iowa. He found strength and comfort in his faith community.

Caleb will be remembered by his parents, Eric Jurgens and Laura Jurgens, of Hopkinton in Iowa; Avery, his loving sister; and his grandparents, Jerry Nefzger and Susan Nefzger, of Delhi in Iowa, Kathy Jurgens and Rod Jurgens, of Hopkinton in Iowa. His great-grandparents are Ruth Ann Jurgens and Carl and Betty Sternhagen, of Hopkinton in Iowa.

Abby and Dustin Smith from Dyersville, Iowa; Michael and Laura Nefzger from Council Bluffs, Iowa; Lisa and Jim Torson, Lisle, Ill.; Lynn Nefzger, Waterloo Iowa and Leann McClain, Waterloo Iowa. Caleb’s great-grandparents were William and Alice Bockenstedt and Elmer and Katherine Nefzger. Richard Jurgens was also predeceased. They embrace him in eternal rest.

Caleb M. Jurgens died tragically on May 21, 2023 due to injuries sustained after a car accident near his home town of Hopkinton in Iowa. Caleb M. Jurgens’ visitation will be held on May 26, 2020, at the Reiff funeral home in Dyersville Iowa from 2 pm to 8 pm. Visitation hours will also be available at the funeral home on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

Caleb was a farmer at heart. He pursued his passion daily, and also through farming simulation games he played with friends. Caleb also loved the thrill of snowmobiling and four-wheeling during memorable adventures with his family and friends. Caleb’s friends and family are in our thoughts during this difficult period as we celebrate and remember his life.

Caleb Jurgens, Hopkinton, Died

Caleb Jurgens, from Hopkinton, was involved in a tragic accident. Caleb Jurgens’ motorcycle was traveling southbound along 310 Ave. when it crossed the centerline and collided with a pickup traveling northbound. The motorcycle stopped on the road, and the truck ended in the east ditch.

Caleb Jurgens, unfortunately, was declared dead at the scene of the accident. Austin Schwendinger (24) and Kaitlyn Schwendinger (25) both sustained minor injuries in the collision. Iowa State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. We send our thoughts to all those who have been affected by this tragic incident.
